ARA: GIS in Augmented Reality
A mobile (tablet) application for iPadOS that visualizes data obtained from the Geographical Information System (GIS) through augmented reality.
OpenDataScience AR is an application intended for tablets from Apple - iPads with iPadOS. The goal of this educational project is to show the possibilities of using freely available data and modern technologies (augmented reality) for practical purposes.

CTU University approached us with the idea of creating a native AR application for iPadOS, depicting the geographical development of the Czech Republic over the past few years.

The AR application from CTU combines all these features and adds one small bonus - it is an example of the fact that extended reality does not have to be used only in games or on social networks, but also in educational applications and as a marketing tool.

The client approached us with a relatively clear idea of what the application should be able to do and contain. In the initial consultations, we took advantage of our experience in developing mobile applications and working with augmented reality and supplemented his idea.

Solution Detail
We start work on any project with an initial consultation, where we and the client clarify what type of cooperation will be involved and what the underlying idea of the intended digital product is.
I want my own applicationThis was followed by the preparation of wireframes and UX/UI design of the application. However, much more work for us this time it was waiting on the backend, where it was necessary to solve not only the functioning of the mobile application as such, but also the AR superstructure.
We proposed the concept of data flow solution and connected the AR application to Google Cloud Storage, where the documents from which the map draws its data are uploaded.
Then it was necessary to process the open data from the GIS into an AR model, in this case a 3D map that shows the development of the landscape using animation of the selected section of the map over time. Under the AR model, we have added a classic map of the Czech Republic, which can be blended with the model to monitor, for example, the development of afforestation in a specific city or village.
